White Rocks contains the type sections for the Portrush, Ballymagarry and Tanderagee Chalk Members of the Cretaceous Ulster White Limestone Formation. Evidence of Tertiary explosive vent activity with associated agglomerate infill is present.

The cliffs themselves are the best example in Ireland of coastal landforms developed in the Ulster White Limestone and include cliff, shore platforms, caves, arches, and sea stacks.

A range of typical seacliff plant communities are present while the cliffs also support breeding black guillemot and peregrine falcon.
