Farm Family Health & Safety Workshops Commence across Northern Ireland

Date published: 27 October 2016

Compared with other employment sectors, agriculture remains one of the most dangerous for people to work in. Many fatalities and serious injuries occur on farm each year. In order to increase awareness and reduce risk, Health and Safety training under the Farm Family Key Skills Programme is due to commence on the 1 November 2016.

Health and Safety awareness participants discussing Health and Safety risks on farm.

Managed by the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), the programme is funded through the Rural Development Programme (RDP) 2014-2020 with support from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).

The courses will be delivered through the Rural Development Council (RDC) who has recently been appointed by CAFRE to deliver Health & Safety training as part of the Farm Family Key Skills programme.

These workshops are targeted at farmers, farm family members and farm employees. The workshops will be hosted on farm, throughout Northern Ireland and can run during week days, evenings or on Saturdays as demand requires. The workshops will offer practical awareness covering the everyday hazards faced by the farming industry.

Topics will include slurry risks; animal handling; falls, working at height and working with equipment machinery, while exploring other key risk areas, such as the safety of the young and the elderly when on farms. The training will prepare the attendee to undertake a farm Health and Safety review and raise awareness of the ‘Making it Safer’ tool, which will be a key requirement for the Farm Business Improvement Scheme - Capital (FBIS).

To register for one of the scheduled workshops please visit the CAFRE website contact RDC on 028 8676 6980 for more information.
