Consultation description
The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is delighted to present this consultation on behalf of the Northern Ireland Executive and look forward to hearing your views.
The main aim of this consultation is to consult on the proposed 2030 and 2040 emissions targets for Northern Ireland and proposed carbon budgets for the periods 2023-2027, 2028-2032 and 2033-2037. We are also using this opportunity to seek the public’s views on the Climate Change Committee’s (CCC) Advice Report: The Path to a Net Zero Northern Ireland published in March 2023.
DAERA is required to prepare regulations on carbon budgets and interim targets guided by advice from the Climate Change Committee (CCC).
Climate action is a high priority for all departments and work is progressing well in respect of the development of Northern Ireland’s first Climate Action Plan, which will set out policies and proposals for achieving Northern Ireland’s first carbon budget (2023-2027) as well as setting out how the 2030, 2040 and 2050 emissions reduction targets will be met.
Working across all other departments, DAERA will carry out significant stakeholder engagement during the 16 weeks of this consultation to meet with, receive feedback and hear the opinions of a wide range of stakeholders.
You can respond to this consultation online through our survey below. The survey is quick and simple to complete and seeks views on our vision, principles, proposed approach, delivery and monitoring.
A series of consultation sessions are planned to include sector specific workshops and a number of public consultation sessions. The dates for the public sessions will be posted on the DAERA website in due course.
